ALBUM REVIEW: pack your bags the sun is growing by bedbug

Under the moniker of bedbug, Dylan Gamez Citron (they/them), unveils their latest sonic endeavor with pack your bags the sun is growing.

The album transcends the boundaries of lo-fi/bedroom pop and builds itself unpon bedbug’s indie rock foundations that infuses the energy of influences like Built to Spill and Cap’n Jazz. With it’s captivating blend of nostalgia and urgency,

pack your bags the sun is growing marks bedbug‘s evolution from a solo project to a full-fledged band.

On the album, bedbug says,

“This is a bit of a new direction for bedbug, the entire record was recorded in-studio. We put a lot of love into it, and made sure there’s still lots to love for the longtime “lofi” fans. I’m a bit nervous about this one, it’s been a few years since I’ve put out new music. it’s also the most ambitious bedbug album by far, so I appreciate everyone who’s been sticking with me!”

In their confessional lyricism and surrealist storytelling, pack your bags the sun is growing is a kaleidoscopic journey through bedbug‘s soul. Poetically messy notes become moments of controlled chaos that mirror the tumultuous nature of the mind that are expressive, at times tinny, but always a beautifully dissonant symphony.
