ALBUM REVIEW: The Beginning by Genus Ordinis Dei

Genus Ordinis Dei have been gearing up for the release of The Beginning (December 8th, Eclipse Records) with a stunning video series that delves into the dawn of humanity. Narrated through the eyes of two siblings who are entwined in humanity’s raw violence, primal savagery, and the timeless themes of love and betrayal. The Beginning serves as a precursor to their album Glare of Deliverance.

The videos were created, filmed and produced by Nik K (vocals, guitars), Tommy Monticelli (guitars, orchestra), and Nico Pedrali (drums), and the album itself was produced, mixed, and mastered by Tommy at Sonitus Studio with the cover art by Andrea Spoto.

Do the videos compliment the album or does the album compliment the videos?

The answer is yes.

The album offers intricate nuances of the story through a musical odyssey and the videos offer a beautiful visual tale that is a cinematic masterpiece, vividly portraying the album’s heart.

Each of the twelve songs resonates with heart and soul, compelling basslines, rhythmic drums, evocative guitars, symphonic crescendos, and vocals that pull and enrage the heart at the same time.

Showcasing the vocal spectrum, “For a New God” is hauntingly beautiful, heartfelt, and gut-wrenching. Nik’s vocals convey the Brother’s emotions, intertwining seamlessly with the music to evoke a profound sense of love, respect, and inner conflict.

The Beginning masterfully navigates between contrasting tones, seamlessly weaving heavy, harsh elements with soft, lush melodies. Genus Ordinis Dei effortlessly manoeuvres this musical dichotomy, entrancing audiences with Nik’s captivating vocals, enthralling rhythms that evoke both harmony and discord, and the enchanting guitar work that feels both majestic and magical.

The Beginning fearlessly explores extremes, not just in music, lyrics, and vocals, but in humanity itself. It invites listeners on a profound journey through humanity’s existence, offering a glimpse into primal thoughts and the depths of human experience.
