DEBUT SINGLE: “Twice” by Crusher

Crusher, the engaging new project from Naarm (Melbourne) based artist Adam Katz and writer-producer Edvard Hakansson recently dropped their debut single, “Twice”.

The guitar-pop duo’s breakup song was inspired by Filipino-Australian artist daine, and Adam says this of the inspiration,

I stumbled across this video daine posted on Instagram. They were casually playing this simple guitar line, but it was so melodic and inspired me to write the chords that ultimately became the chorus to ‘Twice’. I threw those chords over a chopped-up drum break, layered in a heavily processed version of the riff, and showed it to daine and they were really into it – which was so exciting to hear. The guitar riff, paired with the down-tempo drums and chords, created this tough but almost ballad-y foundation which was super fun to write the rest of the song to.

The lo-fi vocals and reverb heavy guitars in “Twice” easily convey the feeling of losing someone, but the emotions are amplified once the lyrics are added.

On the lyrics, Edvard says,

Lyrically, ‘Twice’ is about that feeling when someone you loved starts to feel far away and you know they’re not coming back, and needing to be okay about that. It’s about when you’re so used to be intertwined with someone and then in an instant you’re not. You find yourself wondering how their day was; what they dreamt about last night.

Combining the emotions of sorry and hope, “Twice” is a heartfelt and emotionally charged debut for Crusher.
