Too bad advance links don’t count on Apple Music or Spotify listen counts because I might have listened to “Bad Idea”, the latest form Adult Leisure 47 times in a row.
I will tell you I squealed like a kid on Christmas morning when Adult Leisure posted they were releasing a new song.
Also enticing more squeals is that “Bad Idea” is from their upcoming sophomore EP.
If you follow Amplify the Noise, you’ll know Adult Leisure’s The Weekend Ritual was the number one EP we loved in 2022.
On the song, the band says,
‘Bad idea’ is an honest answer to the relationships that we lie about to keep the peace, and avoid the new and unknown. It’s an introspective yet universal song of acceptance of unhappiness. It’s a raw and honest take on the struggles we face in relationships, and it really solidifies the sound of our band. The lyrics are honest and relatable, and we hope that they will resonate with anyone who’s ever been in a similar situation.
“Bad Idea” rocks. Period. End of story.
And there are a plethora of reasons “Bad Idea” rocks.
I’m sure bassist, James Laing, is a lovely person, but I would marry him solely for his bass playing. “Bad Idea” rumbles with a wonderful and infectious bass line that thumps at the heart and the swaying synths that float delicately in the background of the “Bad Idea” is 80’s daydream perfection.
Not to be outshined, David Woolfard’s guitar is divine and his riffs are glorious and the drums by Nathan Searle are beautifully upbeat and catchy.
And what about vocalist Neil Scott you may ask? That man is the cleaner. He steps in with his vocals and brings everything together in “Bad Idea”. His vocals are raw and honest and the way he carries his voice is emotional and beautiful.
While the song may be sowed in the gloomy lies of a relationship, the song is anything but that. It’s upbeat, danceable, infectious, and has a wonderful and easy groove that allows one to just lose themselves to the music.
The 4 piece further states,
If our first EP was an introduction, then ‘Bad Idea’ is the conversation. It concretes who we are as a group and has finely tuned influences to create a more filtered and bigger sound.
With a dynamic powerhouse of a song like “Bad Idea”, Adult Leisure will not have to worry about a sophomore slump with their upcoming second EP. “Bad Idea” is anything but bad.
