I’m a sucker for a pop punk rock song and I one hundred and ten percent blame the many sweaty hours of Warped Tour shows that I was fortunate to witness for that love.
Satiating that need for pop punk rock greatness comes Young Fatigue and their high octane jam, “Sold Out”. Their tongue in cheek ode to the ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ mentality is an anthem for the dreamers and the believers to boldly live and chase their dreams.
With Ash Dixon on lead vocals and guitar, Michael Enger on bass and vocals, and Pablo Flores on drums, the trio were inspired to write “Sold Out” after no one showed up to one of their shows.
Ash adds,
“We all know being a small band or artist is a grind, but it’s hard to not let it get to you. We were determined to turn that experience into something positive. And out popped ‘Sold Out’.”
He further adds,
“As a small band. you have no money, little resources, and yet you’re expected to project a world-class image, produce radio-quality hits, and all while churning out enough ‘content’ to prompt loved ones to plan an intervention. ‘Sold Out’ is about reclaiming that experience. And I think that’s captured even more so in the music video. Here’s where we want to be as a band. And here’s a song for you to judge whether we deserve it.”
The self produced video took the band over hundred hours to complete, and while there was zero budget available, it shows the band’s ingenuity and dedication to create their own brand and their own world. The video itself sees the ‘fake it to you make it’ come to life which finds the band hitting the big time.
In their rise from the London punk scene, Young Fatigue is not only channelling the frustrations and irritations of the younger generations into punk rock bangers, they are doing it on their own and their own terms.
“Sold Out” is rife with catchy melodies, harmonies, and riffs. The rolling reverberation of the bass adds depth and groove but also highlights the infectiousness of the lyrics and chorus of the song.
Bursting with energy, groove, and charm, “Sold Out” and Young Fatigue are irresistible.
I have no doubt they’ll be playing many sold out shows in their future.
