When listening to the latest single, “Clean Cut” by Australia’s Charm of Finches I am immediately swept to far off mystical lands of fantasy worlds where mythical figures Clotho, Lakhesis, and Atropos are in charge of the string of fates for one’s soul.
Charm of Finches are sisters Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes and “Clean Cut” is from their upcoming album Marlinchen In The Snow (April 19th). The sisters say this of this of the song and video,
“Going away on tour served as the catalyst for a break-up and ‘Clean Cut’ is some self-advice. We stayed with a lovely lady in Oslo, Norway who let us play her gorgeous grand piano and the first part of ‘Clean Cut’ was penned. We created a music video for this song with the help of lots of friends who were willing to dress up as dolls and clowns. This was a huge 22 hour shoot in a warehouse in Melbourne creating the world of a mysterious haunted doll museum.”
With its harmonious ethereal vocals, haunting melodies and lyrics, and enthralling drums and strings, “Clean Cut” is enchanting and hypnotising. The song dances across one’s mind like a scent of a loved one lingering in the air.
There is a wonderful poignant feeling in “Clean Cut” that walks the thin line between fragility and strength or perhaps it’s more so, in its fragility, “Clean Cut” is a strong reminder that we all have inner power to make a fresh start when needed.
