LISTEN: “Walking the Parapets” by Brazen Tongue

Hot on the heels of their debut single “The Weight of Self”, the band that defies geographical boundaries, Brazen Tongue has unleashed their latest single, “Walking the Parapets” from their upcoming debut album Of Crackling Embers & Sorrows Drowned (June 7).

Being an examination of the conductors of disaster and their indifference to the resulting devastation, “Walking the Parapets” is an onslaught of melodies and harmonies.

In a conversation, we discussed harmonies with Ethan Gifford and Scott Skopec with Ethan saying this about guitar harmonies,

“The guitar harmonies were all written and planned out prior to recording. However, the clean vocals and clean vocal harmonies were largely a product of the recording process.”

Scott added this about the vocal harmonies,

“All the vocal harmonies were pretty much written on the spot and tracked the same day, and Andy Nelson was instrumental in that. But it also presented a big mixing challenge later because there were so many layers of growls and cleans, and it’s a really delicate balance to get right.”

Not only did Brazen Tongue get it right, the harmonies in “Walking the Parapets” is what originally caught my ear. The band has some of the best harmonies I’ve ever heard in metal.

“Walking the Parapets” is perfectly balanced in brutality and grace.
