ALBUM REVIEW: Unearthly Will by Augurium

Augurium returns with their latest Unearthly Will. Unearthly Will marks their third studio offering, following 2018’s Unhallowed Ascendance 2017’s Omen. The earlier efforts were the foundation for Augurium’s growth from brutality to a more meticulously auditory assault.

The band says this on the album,

This project has been an awesome journey and a welcome challenge to create over the past two years. All of our experiences have been absorbed and expressed within the walls of sound. As a tapestry is weaved together, each day as a thread towards the colossal effort that went towards this death metal release. We hope that our listeners enjoy this album for what it is, and perhaps join us when we perform in your area.

The band’s metamorphosis isn’t just through their music either. From high school friends through line-up changes, their experiences bring a collective influence from philosophy, various religious studies, fantasy realms, video game narratives, and mythological landscapes.

The goal remains simple:

  1. aim to write for entertainment
  2. spread a positive message
  3. make the world a better place through their craft

Unearthly Will nails all three.

Heavy from start to finish, the album intertwines the band’s goals and their inspiration into a cohesive nine track album. While obvious breaks are between songs, Unearthly Will flows seamlessly from track to track, never disrupting one’s listening experience but allowing for an odyssey, perhaps even a death metal revelation.

An unmissable offering for death metal fans, Unearthly Will is a mile marker of Augurium’s growth and showcase of visceral talent, guttural vocals, and brutality. Brutality that even aims to make the world a better place.
