ALBUM REVIEW: Where I Begin by Hearts & Hand Grenades

With Stefanie Wlosinski on vocals and bass, Mike Bress on guitar and keyboards, Kenny Blesy on lead guitar, and Cory Michalski on drums, Hearts & Hand Grenades are days away from their release Where I Begin (January 26th, Eclipse Records).

Engineered by Justin Rose and mixed and mastered by Jeremy Tabor, Where I Begin finds the explosive band looking at love and relationships, poking fun at the music industry and more. While the lyrics may evoke tender feelings and emotions at times, more often than not, the lyrics throughout Where I Begin ignite a fire deep within, one that demands action and perhaps a little bit of ‘drive fast, take chances’ attitude.

That attitude not only echoes throughout the music but through Stefanie’s gritty and fierce vocals. There’s a wonderful ballsy attitude and strength that is found in her voice, a fuck around and find out if you will. It’s tinged with the likes of Wendy O. Williams, Joan Jett, and Lita Ford and a force to be reckoned with. Stefanie’s vocals shine on the songs, “Burn (By My Fire)”, “Boom”, and “I Just Want My Rock” to name a few.

But Stefanie does not stand alone. The men by her side elevate, lift, and support her with their own ferocious talent. It’s one of the things that makes Hearts & Hand Grenades stand apart from bands also fronted by strong women. The men meet the challenges given and don’t fade into the background behind Stefanie.

With distorted guitars and bass, crashing drums, and sharp vocals, Where I Begin is a relentless and raw exploration of life. Where I Begin has grit and bite, sass and swagger, is a punch in the proverbial nuts, and rocks from start to finish.

MUST LISTEN TRACKS: “Burn (By My Fire)”, “Boom”, “Way Down Low”, “I Just Want My Rock”, “Anywhere But Here”, “Over Again”
