DEBUT EP REVIEW: The City by Tansu

In her debut EP The City Harlem-based vocalist extraordinaire TANSU delivers a soul-stirring musical journey that transcends genres and captivates one with its raw emotion and melodic brilliance. The six tracks traverse the complexities of relationships, self-discovery, and the vibrant energy of New York City as TANSU invites us into her world of indie-soul, sparkling pop, and hypnotic trap.

On the EP, TANSU says,

“It’s an EP about girlfriends, boyfriends, old friends, fake friends. There are songs about best friends that break your heart, and there are songs about the most important relationship in life; the one you make with yourself. The way I learned to love myself is a direct reflection of the emotional life I choose to lead here in NYC.”

Drawing from her diverse cultural background and lifelong love affair with soul music, TANSU infuses each song with a deeply personal touch, creating an intoxicating blend of vulnerability and resilience. From the sultry neo-soul vibes of “Downtown” to the soul-cleaning energy of goodbye in “Easy Love,” each track showcases TANSU‘s amazing vocal range and emotional storytelling.

The EP’s centrepiece, the ballad “Got 2 Me,” lays bare the complexities of vulnerability in relationships. With its sultry tones and intense atmosphere, TANSU‘s powerhouse voice shines bright, delivering a performance that is as captivating as it is heartfelt.

“Easy Love” serves as a tribute to past friendships, while “Love Alone” delves into the pain of unfulfilled relationships. Meanwhile, “Truth About Us” emerges as an anthem of self-discovery and empowerment, reminding one of the importance of loving oneself first.

Produced by Dave Rublin of American Authors, The City is rich in sound, deep with emotion, and leaves one falling in love with TANSU’s vocal power.

With its soul-drenched vocals and heartfelt melodies The City is a soulful ode to love, loss, and self-discovery.
