EP REVIEW: Ask Me Now by Mewn

Ask Me Now from Manchester’s own, Mewn is a delicate dance through chaos. Like masterful architects, the five-piece band constructs a sonic edifice that juxtaposes ornate melodies with raw emotional honesty, inviting one to traverse the precarious tightrope between hope and despair.

The band meticulously crafts a sound that is perfect for the introspective mood of a winter landscape and that of a bright and sparkling light filled cityscape. Perhaps this best of both worlds lies in the production where the band worked with Joel Pratchett at Eve Studio who assisted the band in using both analogue and digital. The embracement of both the warmth of analog and the precision of digital technology creates a depth and richness that would not be attainable using just one approach.

Guiding one through Ask Me Now are lead vocalist Daniel Bluer, alongside Rachel Bell, Matt Protz, Daniel Cowman, and Tom Allen. From the synth-driven depths of “More Shallow” to the expansive atmospherics of “Ask Me Now,” Mewn explores the depths of human experience with unflinching honesty and musical dexterity.

In “All The Happiness,” the band jumps into experimental rock territory. Eerie and euphoric, the track shows Mewn‘s ability to seamlessly blend disparate influences into a cohesive whole, creating a sound that is as complex as it is captivating.

As they continue to evolve and explore new territories of sound, Mewn stands poised on the precipice of greatness, offering listeners a glimpse into the depths of the human heart with each note they play.
