Born from a drunken chat in a pub, Bristol based Buried in Bermuda started with a mission to get themselves out in front of audiences and to connect with them through captivating vocals, mind-blowing riffs, and irresistibly catchy hooks. Giles (lead vocal and lead guitar), Kyle (rhythm guitar and background vocals), Josh (bass), and Alex (drums) are living up to that mission with their latest single, “Electric.”
Despite their nod to the 80s neon vibes with their aesthetics and band logo, Buried in Bermuda is a blend of grunge, rock, and metal that packs a solid punch to the guts. That punch to the guts is heard loud and clear in “Electric.”
As the song starts, I am reminded of “Cemetery Gates” by Pantera. Similar to the metal classic, “Electric” starts as a whisper before becoming a full blown ferocious storm. With Buried in Bermuda’s blend of hard-hitting guitars and rumbling bass, “Electric” is both haunting and headbanging. Giles’ vocals sway from clean to gritty and his grittier vocals are where his vocal power shines. There’s a strength within the vocals that allow the emotions of the lyrics to fully come to life.
Midway through the seven minute and twenty-two second track comes the star of “Electric”…the bass. While it can be heard throughout the song, its thunderous solo is a grunge lover or a bass lover’s delight. The bass is thick, heavy, and the foundation for the guitar solos but what I like about Josh’s bass is that during the solos the bass never fades from the spotlight.
“Electric” by Buried in Bermuda delivers a powerful blend of grunge, rock, and metal that not only showcases the band’s musical talent but also leaves an impression, and confirms that Buried in Bermuda are on target in their mission.
