ALBUM REVIEW: Wing by Big Scary

Opening song “Something to Remember” and closing song “A Ribbon to Hold Us” were singles that offered a glimpse into Wing’s tone and mood. But fans familiar with 2021’s Daisy and 2022’s Me and You may have realised that with Wing, Big Scary are drawing the trilogy of albums to a close.

Big Scary is Tom Iansek and Jo Syme and the duo is a case study in creative partnerships and how to allow each other creative space but also a pair that is more than familiar with life’s complexities especially those in love and relationships.

Tom and Jo are the yin to the other’s yang. Be it in vocals or creativity, one offers stability to the other. While Tom’s voice is grounded to the earth, Jo’s soars with an ethereal frequency. It’s this wonderful balance that makes Wing a tour de force.

Whether facing existential questioning, exploring shifting perspectives, or navigating the emotional rollercoaster of life, Big Scary are pushing boundaries of consciousness through pulsating rhythms, sharp guitar riffs, Tom’s falsetto vocals, Jo’s silky gossamer vocals, and infectious beats.

Wing is evolutionary, experimental, and an artistic masterpiece from Big Scary.
