DEBUT EP REVIEW: Love’s Latest News by Speedrun

The debut EP, Love’s Latest News by Speedrun, the alter ego of Nina Lüders, is as vibrant and diverse as her New York roots.

From the opening track, “Hearsay,” Speedrun’s energy captivates as she blends a rock spirit similar to that of the Foo Fighters with her spectacularly jazzy vocal tone that are both fierce and ethereal. The tight guitars and rumbling bass, accompanied by upbeat drum cadences, create a dynamic soundscape that hooks one from the start.

Exploring love through a modern eye, Love’s Latest News celebrates the journey towards self-love and on the EP, Speedrun says,

“I wrote this EP as a love letter to 2000s indie rock, with the cover art of me in a suit of armor to both highlight the medieval theme and introduce imagery of a young black woman empowered in her own hero’s journey. The Strokes producer Gordon Raphael found me on TikTok and offered to join the project as the lead mixer and really drove home the nostalgic garage rock sound while keeping it contemporary for all kinds of listeners.”

While no armour is required, Speedrun’s look on the cover is as ferocious as she sounds. Her heartfelt lyrics and impassioned vocals gives each track a distinct perspective on love be it through introspective or upbeat anthems. With Gordon by her side, Love’s Latest News is a seamless fusion of vintage rock with a modern touch.

Nostalgic yet electric, the indie chic Speedrun and her debut EP, Love’s Latest News is a chill and upbeat exploration of the multifaceted nature of love.
